Why do I need to renew my SSL certificate early?
The main reason you want to renew early is to give yourself plenty of time to get the certificate issued and installed. You can't afford a lapse in encryption. Don't worry, you can carry any time you have remaining on your current certificate over to your new one-up to 30 days!
How do I renew my SSL certificate?
- For existing customers, simply log in to the control panel and view your list of digital certificates. If one is almost expired there will be a renew button next to it. Simply click the button and follow the steps. You'll have your renewal done in no time.
- For new customers, start by shopping for a certificate just like you normally would, then – when you're ready to check out – notify one of our SSL experts via phone or live chat and they'll guide you through the rest.
Do I need to generate a new Certificate Signing Request?
Some servers and applications do require you to generate a new CSR. They include Windows, Tomcat and Java-based servers, as well as most firewalls and other digital applications. If any of your business information changed, you'll need to generate a new CSR, too.
What happens if I don't renew?
You SSL certificate will expire, and your customers' web browsers will show an interstitial warning about your website's security. This will hurt the confidence and trust levels of your customers and it might be possible that they won't visit your site ever again. All this could ultimately shatter your brand reputation and force you to go out of business. That's why the wisdom lies in renewing your certificate without any delay.
